An Accidental Appointment with Withers

7/20/2019 - Dice and Dorkuses Session
Players Present:
Ingrid as Momo and Chamylionaire
Scott as Stugg and Azaka
Iain as Maxwell
Amy as Monty
Rose as FiFi
Travis as Chimis

In this session, the party puzzled out the safest way to enter the tomb, avoided a gas trap, pushed through a number of dart traps, chased a Tomb Dwarf down to it's lair, pushed an immovable rod into adamantium fan blades, and eventually confronted Withers and his Tomb Dwarfs.

Rewards:
-Advance to level 7 for defeating Withers, advancing past the opening traps, and getting hold of the triangle skull.
-Treasure from Withers office was discussed. Withers head + bronze mask. Additionally - I failed to mention that Withers was wearing a spooky skull amulet. I allowed Iain to waste a spell slot to identify the non-magical mask, but I think it would be fair to allow that to be used to potentially ID the amulet.

Details:
1. Party began by getting some mundane equipment from the grateful snake-people post-wizard murder
2. The group began investigating the tomb entrance, starting with an obelisk with cryptic clues from Acerak himself, eventually finding a dead Red Wizard in one possible entrance, and a number of shrines in another.
3. The entrance with the shrines eventually led to a secret door, behind which was a golden pendant that aggressively pointed in the direction of some brush against that cliff face.
4. Pushing through that brush revealed another path in, and another puzzle door.
5. After some trial and error with the puzzle door (and a shock for failure), the party pushed through, revealing a second door, a lever and a leering skull. The moment someone stepped halfway through, an hourglass would be pushed out through the skull's mouth. There were a number of attempts to use the lever. Each time that was done, a trap door would open. On the last try, no-one did anything with the lever, and simply allowed the time to run out. With that, the door descended and revealed a corridor leading in to the face of a bearded devil on the opposite wall.

6. Through some trial and error, the group pushed through a corridor of foliage and dart traps, leading to a T-intersection that could go down to a strange crystalline wall feature on one side, and a large set of stairs on the other. Chimis approached the stairs.
7. There, Chimis saw a Tomb Dwarf, and ordered it to halt. When it didn't, he attempted to shoot, and pursued. Additionally, on the opposite balcony in this wide chamber there was a skeleton that began climbing up the walls like a spider. That skeleton had a large metal triangle built into it's skull.
8. After a running battle with the skeleton, and numerous attempts to grapple or magically halt the Tomb Dwarf, diplomacy prevailed, and the creature offered to show the group to Withers, it's boss.
9. The rest of the group went back upstairs to regroup, while Chimis followed the Tomb Dwarf to meet with Withers.
10. Withers, an undead wizard of some sort with a bronze mask, grilled Chimis about current events, and then asked him to doff his armor, and set both arms and armor in a box in front of his desk, and get into a position where his neck was clear.
11. At this point, Chimis decided that he was in danger, and fled back through secret passages towards the rest of the group. As he was retreating, he was struck with a lightning bolt. The rest of the party did come to his aid, and after a maximized guiding bolt from Stugg, Withers retreated.
12. From there, the party gave chase, eventually finding Withers in a spooky chamber full of tools, chains, and a weird forge. From there, a hulking armored dead idiot emerged, and the party took on Withers, 5 of his Tomb Dwarves, and that creature with the help of a bunch of rescued rats.
13. Monty took down Withers with a couple of deft blows from an ensorcelled short-sword, and from there the fight turned into a nasty slog. The Tomb Dwarves were highly resistant to most damage that the party could do, but eventually the battle turned to the benefit of the party.
14. Following that, Wither's office was searched, a spellbook was discovered, and a grey translucent stone was discovered, which per Maxwell's review, is used to control Gray Slaad, some kind of demon.
